If you are looking at the Mumsnet Local Rutland page you probably live in this glorious county in central England and are looking for other parents to meet, things to do and experiences to share with your little ones. You have come to the right place!
Our gorgeous county is bounded on the west and north by Leicestershire, northeast by Lincolnshire and southeast by Northamptonshire. Despite being the smallest historic county in the country, with Oakham and Uppingham being the only (albeit wonderful!) towns within it, Rutland more than makes up for its size by the number of family places and activities it has to offer. In 1950 the county council adopted the motto Multum in Parvo meaning ""much in little"" which couldn't be more true of our beautiful county!
At the centre of Rutland is Rutland Water; an important nature reserve which is a breeding ground for ospreys and an overwintering site for many different wildfowl species. All around Rutland Water are fantastic family adventures to be discovered from cycling, sailing and fishing through to bird watching at the Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre and the wonderful Rockblok climbing course for children over seven years old on the North Shore. If you are not feeling quite so adventurous, Rutland Water is also a perfect spot to relax, take a stroll, enjoy a picnic or let loose in any of the children's play areas which are waiting to be explored!
Also a stone's throw from Rutland Water is the Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre which is perfect for a gentle stroll around the many birds on display and further on into various habitats of different woodland animals.
Rutland is fortunate to be home to many fascinating castles, museums and historic houses as well as being in a prime location for us to enjoy those in our neighbouring counties too!
There is so much to see and do in Rutland. Let's make the most of it and help other parents to do the same!
