    25-May-2014 Report

DD (5) and I visited this pub this Sunday teatime. I was desperate for a Sunday dinner and there was no point cooking just for me. On arrival the pub was very busy and I could not see a table for us so we went outside and DD enjoyed the play area for a while. The pub got slightly less busy and so we managed to find a table. I chose the small Sunday beef dinner which was a bargain at £5.49, a large diet coke and a portion of chips and a fruit shoot (yes I know!) for DD. The bill came to £9.94.

The food took about 10 minutes to arrive which was not unreasonable considering it was busy. My food was absolutely piping hot and appeared to be cooked fresh and was a generous portion for a 'small.' DD said her chips were hot but I guess that was a sign that they were freshly cooked. The gravy was nice, the meat tender and the roast potatoes were tasty. The server also fetched me a pot of horseradish sauce which was a decent size although it wasn't very spicy.

The pub itself was fine, the play area was a nice touch and it seemed clean enough. The toilets all worked and had soap and working hand-driers.

It is very much a local pub with lots of families meeting up, football watching and steady drinking going on. If you want haute cuisine, don't go there, if you live outside of the area there is probably something similar near you so go there. If you want cheap and cheerful food or are having a can't be bothered to cook night and live fairly locally then this is probably worth a visit.
