I would highly recommend Little Bear baby signing. My 10 month old has always loved the sessions which in itself is a miracle as she screams her way through most other classes we have attempted. This one grabs her attention and keeps her interested - plus there are toys and instruments for her to play with which are not taken away from her within minutes (what is with that, I have never understood the point!) but left out for the whole session. She can be as mobile as she likes which is also great.
She loves the songs and when we play the CD at home she is instantly alert and excited. A couple of the songs are the only thing that will calm her down if she is agitated during car journeys.
The signs definitely help her to understand me and when she begins to make more signs herself then I'm sure it will work the other way round as well.
We are looking forward to our second term and eagerly awaiting her first proper signs!
I've been taking my 1 year old to Little Bear since he was 4 months old and he absolutely loves it! There is an excellent mix of songs and learning signs that really grabs the babies' attention. I would thoroughly recommend this class, as there is nothing more rewarding than being able to communicate with your little one long before they can talk : )

I can't recommend Little Bear Baby Signing enough. We went with our daughter from 6mths to 2 and a half years and I honestly can't describe the impact it has had for us day to day - I can't imagine how life would be without signing.
It has been the most amazing journey, to think we might have ended up doing a different activity like a music group which would probably have been just as fun but without the incredible boost in communication - we would all have missed out on so much! What would it have been like if we took away every time she had understood us signing to her, every time she told us something that she couldn't yet say with words, every time she was just forming words that could have meant one thing or another but she was able to clarify it with a sign... Suffice to say the terrible twos have yet to arrive here - there is very little frustration in our lives and I attribute a lot of that to Jane and Little Bear. Even beyond using signs themselves, it has taught us more generally to take her seriously and persevere when she is trying to communicate something - so many times we weren't really sure about what she was getting at and would have given up or brushed it off without having any way of understanding, but she could use signs to explain and then we would keep trying until we figured it out together which we invariably would. On many occasions it would be something she had seen that we hadn't noticed, and it has helped us see the world through her eyes so that even now when she is speaking so much we feel very much like we are on her wavelength and communication is not a frustrating mystery.
I love the way the Little Bear sessions are planned - all very carefully thought through, progressive but well paced, yet you could easily think it was just joining in with a few songs and actions in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Jane really gets to know all the children and is very patient with the fact that she has a young audience - there is absolutely no trying to get active toddlers to sit and join in (or worrying if a small baby sleeps or feeds all the way through for example!) - for us it was just as much about a regular session of things for us to pick up in class and continue with at home. Yes, we could have taught ourselves signing without the group, but there is no way in the world I would have stuck with it in the same way or used it to such a great extent. And the group in itself is a lovely one - not all shouty/loud/blaring music like so many other baby/toddler activity groups.
In a nutshell, it is the one activity I would recommend above all else - for the atmosphere, the personalised approach, but especially the long term impact on communication and all that comes hand in hand with it.
I did Little Bear Signing with my daughter from 3 months to over 2 years! We loved the class and she learnt so much (150 signs!) and although she is talking loads now we still sign together so it is a great life skill too! Can't wait to go back again with a future little one! :)
I've been taking my daughter to little bear signing for over a year now. She loves the classes, they are great fun and very interactive. Her communication through signing is brilliant and really helps us to understand what she wants and needs. It never ceases to amaze me how many signs she knows and she continues to learn more at a fast pace now (she is 19 months). I also feel its helping her speech to develop. I would highly recommend the classes to others :)
