From exhibitions of the Stirling Heads to local artists as well as events such as Dickens Book Groups and a venue for Stirling Fringe, the Smith Art Gallery & Museum as something for everyone. Within the grounds is Ailie's Garden - created to encourage wildlife, the study of nature, the demonstration of composting and waste management, and to add to the pleasure of visiting the Smith. It has been planned as an outdoor gallery, biodiversity garden, and family activity space.
The Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum, founded in 1874 with the bequest and collection of the artist Thomas Stuart Smith (1815–1869) on land provided by the burgh of Stirling, still operates under the modified trust deed of its founder.
