The Quay Theatre

The Quay building has a long and fascinating history. The site was first developed in 1791 when ‘The Great Granary' was built as the main warehouse for The Stour Navigation Company. Following a period of changing hands for various uses the building fell into a state of disrepair during the 1960s, so much so it was once due for demolition. In 1977 the site became connected with the arts for the first time when it was purchased by the Sudbury Dramatic Society in a semi-derelict state. Following an extensive conversion project it was opened as a theatre by Max Wall in 1981. Today The Quay is a thriving, multi-purpose arts centre home to several organisations and clubs with a multitude of activities going on at all times. Please contact the theatre for dates and times of upcoming films.
