The Friendly Loaf Co

Bury St. Edmunds

We have an Artisan Bakery outside Bury St Edmunds . We specialise in slow proved REAL bread, sour dough and patisserie; sourcing the best flours locally from East Anglia, Italy and France. We use fresh ingredients where possible.

Our latest news is that we now have set up a bakery in a unit in the beautiful surroundings of Rede Hall farm, between Bury St Edmunds and Chedburgh. For information on our baking classes, please visit our website. They would make an imaginative gift for that hard to buy for person. Lunch is provided too.

You can also find us on the Bury market outside Waterstones on Saturday and outside Holland and Barrett on Wednesdays or at various Farmers Markets, Events, or Farm Shops. If you have any questions or other correspondence please email us at

    09-Dec-2013 Report

The Friendly Loaf Co Bakery HQ is set in the most bucolic surroundings one could imagine. As you learn to bake with Mark Proctor, who is a highly experienced Patissiere and Baker, you will see gaggles of geese sauntering past the open barn doors occasionally stopping to watch.
I cannot imagine a better gift for a food lover or a young baker who has been inspired to learn because of the glut of TV baking programmes.

The bread at The Friendly Loaf Company is made using time honoured traditions using starters. Ingredients are of the utmost quality and sourced locally where possible. Indeed one supplier of the flours used is Pakenham Mill not too far away and worthy of a visit itself.

Please do book a class and make the effort to find Mark and his stall on Bury St Edmunds market. You will not be disappointed.
