The Queen's Head at Eye

Come and visit Eye's beautiful mediaeval pub, restored and reopened in 2011. Great cask ales, all-home-made food, beautifully redecorated, scrubbed tables, Beer garden. Children and dogs welcome. WiFi. Featured in the 2013 Good Beer Guide and our excellent ale has earned us the prestigious Cask Marque. FOOD AND DRINK The kitchen is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday from 12 noon to 2 pm and dinner from 6 to 9 pm (no dinner on Sundays). Ales are served direct from the casks on the bar - Suffolk-brewed Adnams is a local favourite, supported by frequently changing popular guest ales. Aspall cider, also from Suffolk is always available. There's a wide range of wines, plus sherries to accompany the tapas selections.

    25-Nov-2013 Report

We visited early Nov 2013 not long after the new owners had taken command. If there were any teething problems, they had clearly been dosed with Calpol (or the pub equivalent) as they were not apparent to us. We arrived late to a pub busy with regulars and post Remembrance Sunday attendees and despite the website saying no food, everybody was eating heartily. The chef came out and spoke to us regarding the options left and offered to cook off menu for a pesceterian member of our party. Within minutes, staff brought out the most velvety green Winter vegetable soup we'd seen in a while. Tasting more of Spring Pea, we scarfed it down then made inroads into the basket of very fresh bread accompanying it. Often towards the end of a lunch time sitting, bread can be a little 'long in the tooth' having been cut at start of service but this was springy and clearly freshly sliced. The Roast Pork came with what appeared to be an entire piggy cracklings worth, rendered down perfectly. The plaice in brown butter sauce looked divine (Had I tried to steal some I'd have been stabbed with a fork) and was pronounced perfect. The open fires, wood, beams and beer will cast their wicked spell on you. Don't plan on moving too soon after a meal here. It would be criminal even though Eye is a lovely place for a meander.
