No4 Hatter Street

Bury St. Edmunds

disabled access

No. 4 Hatter Street is the Abbeygate's stunning dining room - with its Georgian style decor it's something we're really proud of. Whether you're after a relaxing glass of wine before a film or you're in the mood for a delectable sit-down meal, you'll find a warm welcome at our brand new bar and restaurant.
Our Canadian Chef Alex Rotherham has created a menu including burgers and exotic salads. The food is hand-crafted daily on site with care, using high quality raw ingredients.
We use local meats including Dingley Dell pork from Ashmoor Hall Farm, Campsea Ashe, beef from Hardwick Game Farm here in Bury St Edmunds, and Suffolk free-range chicken. We also serve seafood, which is Suffolk-sourced whenever possible. We also have a fully stocked bar. For those of you who want to come by for an afternoon break, we have a classic afternoon tea and a lavish spread of decadent sweets on offer.

When I heard that the chef was Canadian, I rushed to No4 as fast as my legs could carry me. And imagine my joy upon discovering that yes, this Canadian chef had put Poutine on the menu! For those of you in the dark, Poutine is a Quebecois speciality de la maison- a pile of fries, gravy covered and crowned with a snowy mantle of cheese curds. Now don't knock it until you have tried it. The downside of Poutine? I fell asleep halfway through a very good film in the adjacent cinema, so replete was I.
BTW- the rest of the menu is pretty darn good too.
