Winkworth Arboretum

Godalming

disabled access

Established in the 20th century, this hillside arboretum has now been maintained by the National Trust for 60 years and has built up a collection of more than 1,000 different shrubs and trees, many of them rare.

Visit any time of year for a delightful stroll through the personal plant collection of one man, who was passionate about shrubs and trees. The Collection and setting are too unique to ever disappoint.

The most impressive displays are in spring, with magnolias, bluebells and azaleas, and autumn, when the colour of the foliage is stunning.

In the summer it is an ideal place for family days out and picnics.

    02-Jun-2013 Report

Beautiful views across a wooded valley and lake, (the boat house featured in the film, The Wedding Date.) In the spring it is a great place to see bluebells and the views are stunning in the autumn. There are lots of trees that are perfect for climbing and there is loads of space for running around. There is a café and play area next to the entrance, where they served the best hot chocolate I've ever tasted. I'm not sure what they did to it; there was some speculation around adding marshmallows.
