    26-Aug-2015 Report

Our 10-year-old daughter has attended Raise the Curtain music theatre classes on Friday afternoons for two years. She also attends the dance-only class which immediately follows the music theatre hour.
The nature of the productions the children undertake in the music theatre class varies by term. In the autumn, for example, the project can be a complete musical production with scripts and songs, which is then followed by a showcase medley of several different stage shows and dance numbers in the spring, concluding with a ‘mini musical' in the summer. There is always great diversity in the musicals and dance styles that the children cover in these productions. As our daughter starts her third year of classes, we have yet to encounter any element of repetition in material.
Perhaps the greatest strength of the RTC classes comes in the unique balance that Janina and Cassie manage to strike between striving for technical excellence and ensuring that the children thoroughly enjoy themselves at each step of the way. Our daughter, who has been singing with Cassie since the age of 5, is always challenged during the classes but never fails to have fun, and always comes home happy and looking forward to the next week. In our experience, this approach by RTC seems to result in all the children consistently throwing themselves into their productions with pride and enthusiasm. My husband and I are always astonished at what they can achieve over the course of a term with their once-weekly rehearsals!
In addition to their class work, the children are offered the opportunity to take individual music theatre exams. Those participating are meticulously prepared in all relevant respects. The procedure, objectives and expectations are explained and rehearsed in a very positive and encouraging manner alongside the actual preparation of their individual songs, and the examinations are held over the course of a single day in the familiar surroundings of the centre where the children have their weekly classes. In our experience, this approach results in the children actually looking forward to exam day!
In half-terms and holidays there are further opportunities to take part in RTC activities, and our daughter always jumps at the chance. The week-long RTC workshops (shorter in the half-term) provide an opportunity for the children to prepare a scripted and costumed show, which is then performed on an actual stage with lighting, sets and musical accompaniment. Notwithstanding the time constraints, the atmosphere in these workshops is as nurturing and positive as that at the weekly music theatre classes, and the final productions are excellent.
For music theatre instruction that will develop your child's confidence and technique whilst providing a warm and encouraging environment, we can't recommend the RTC classes highly enough!

    11-Mar-2015 Report

My daughter Virginia has been attending RTC classes since she turned 4years old and she loves it! It is so nice seeing her taking part in an after school activity that makes her so happy. She is now attending two days a week and if it was for her she would love to go every single day. Her confidence has really grown since she started attending the classes and also she can now finally sing in tune! The classes are a mix of singing, dancing and acting, perfect for an after school activity. Virginia talks about Cassie and Janina as they were member of our family...A very happy Mum! Maria
