Growing Communities Veg box Scheme

Columbia Road

This organic box scheme working in Hackney has a pick up point near Tower Hamlets, on Hackney's City Farm.

They provide a weekly selection of seasonal organic produce, as they explain "our salad bags are grown on our own Soil Association market gardens in Hackney. Our potatoes and apples come from small farms in Kent and Essex and our oranges come from cooperatives in Italy and Spain. Last year, 62% of our vegetables and 23% of the fruit in our fruit bags came direct from local farms while overall 88% of our vegetables came from the UK."

They don't buy air-freighted produce or produce from heated greenhouses. Only the Fair Trade organic bananas come from outside Europe.

You can join the scheme on-line or over the phone.
You can have a one month trial.

All memberships start on the first Wednesday of the month.
