North & South Tyneside

Just a short hop from the rich heritage and vibrant nightlife of Newcastle straddling the River Tyne to the coast is North and South Tyneside where you will find blue flag beaches, history, culture and great family days out.

In North Tyneside you can discover the rich Roman history at places like Segedunum. The bars and restaurants of Tynemouth make it a popular destination for a night out as well as family day trips due to its sandy beaches, aquarium and mini golf. There is a burgeoning food scene at the Fish Quay in North Shields ranging from fine dining to fish and chips.

South Tyneside boasts the only seaside funfair in the north east at Ocean Beach. If it is culture that you are after head to South Shields which offers arts and entertainment for all the family. It is in South Shields that you will find award winning fish and chips and the Indian Restaurants on Ocean Road. The home of the Venerable Bede can be found in Jarrow and you can find out all about him and Anglo Saxon life at Bede's World.

With great public transport it is easy to get around Tyneside and you should not miss taking the passenger ferry from North to South or vice versa.
