Aberdeenshire is a warm, welcoming area stretching from coastal towns such as Peterhead and Fraserburgh – with stunning views, beaches and coastal walks – right through to the edge of the Cairngorms, with its hill walks and funicular railway. Throughout the countryside there are many small towns such as Inverurie and Huntly, which offer places to shop and eat, country parks and stunning viewpoints. Aberdeenshire is steeped in history and you'll find ancient stone sites, castles and country houses (including Balmoral, the Queen's residence in Scotland). Quirky museums offering a fantastic day out include the Alford transport museum where Dr Who fans can come face to face with a Dalek.

Aberdeen City offers a wealth of fun, culture and shopping. Families can enjoy the cinema, bowling, and a funfair experience at the Beach Boulevard – there's something for everyone from rides for young children to crazy golf and the Grampian Eye, which provides a fantastic view both across the city and out to sea. The city's Art Gallery regularly changes exhibitions and the hidden gem of Provost Skene's House shows how people lived inthe 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries. Aberdeen Arts Centre and His Majesty's Theatre offer a range of shows throughout the year. Sports fans can enjoy a match at Pittodrie Stadium or participate in a range of sports from rock climbing at Transition Extreme to ice-skating at the Lynx to a round of golf on one of the many courses in the area. Shopping is well catered for with several centres offering a range of shops for every need.

This brief introduction does not give justice to an area that needs exploring both by visitors and the many people that live and work here to fully appreciate all that there is to see and do.
