Purnell's Bistro is a new venture from TV chef Glynn Purnells. The Bistro offers diners honest portions of food, inspired by rustic home-cooking but with an eclectic twist.
For example, game pie with braised red cabbage and Gaufrette potatoes (£17.50); or poached cod loin, goats cheese, butterbeans, chorizo, and spinach (£17.50).
Enjoy a drink in Ginger's Bar our fabulous cocktail bar Inspired by Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, the decor and ambience is an acknowledgement to the glamour and style experienced in the 1930's era. Available Tuesday to Saturday for Lunch 18.30-19.30 Tuesday to Thursday for dinner.
Chldren are welcome; under-10s can choose from any menu item marked with a "P" with a 50% reduction.
I've been to Purnell's for lunch and Gingers for dinner and cocktails, and loved both.
The service at the restaurant was really friendly and warm for a Michelin-starred venue, and the food was delicious and imaginative.
We went to Gingers last night and were really impressed with the cocktails (£4.50 before 8pm). It's more low-key with friendly but not chatty staff. Other diners were mostly families (celebrating GCSEs?) and older couples (it was a Wednesday evening), and the decor was all in grey and a little dark. The food was properly gorgeous and well-executed - rather better than your ordinary French Bistro. The Scotch Eggs and Black Pudding was served with a watercress veloute for example, and the Duck Rillette came with some fashionably pickled cabbage.
We pushed the boat out and had a glass of port with the cheese course, yet the bill didn't sting. We had a wonderful night out.
