Hampstead Heath is running its 11th annual mass conker championships on Parliament Hill.

This now famous conker championships takes place at 3pm.

The City Corporation, which manages the beauty spot, officially broke the Guinness World Record for staging the biggest ever knock-out conker championships there in 2011, with 395 participants.

London's largest conker championship has categories for under 5s, 5-7, 8-13, 14-18 and the hotly contested over 18s.

Competition can be fierce! Conkers and string are provided, though some competitors may choose to bring their own conkers.

Up to 200 conker would-be champions are expected to fight it out this year. There will be a conker Meister on hand to give advice, plus live music.

Conker fights, less common these days, due to being banned in lots of playgrounds - date back some 200 years. Traditionally children baked or steeped their conkers in vinegar, to give them extra strength, then drilled/skewered a hole for the string to pass through.

Players take turns hitting each other's conker - if they crack the opposition, they win! Conkers become a one-er, two-er... as they gain wins.

Good luck!
