Doniford Bay Haven Holiday Park

disabled access

A holiday park to enjoy fantastic sea views of the Somerset coastline.

You'll find our park a few miles along the coast from the beautiful Exmoor National Park where you can see wild ponies and red deer wandering free...

The nearby beach is a sandy, shingle mix with groups of rock pools to explore, and here on the park we've got an array of family friendly activities to keep you entertained. Try out our crazy golf course or harness up to tackle our climbing wall, ropes course and zip wire. Then make a splash by taking your family down the four-lane water slide right into our heated, outdoor fun pool.

    13-Apr-2013 Report

If, like us, your holidays are always on a very tight budget, you've no doubt had the experience of arriving for a caravan holiday and thinking "Oh well, I suppose you get what you pay for."

Not the case here... We went for a 5 night break during the Easter holidays and right from the friendly greeting at the gate through to brunch on the morning we left, everything was just that bit better than we;d expected. The caravan was the cheapest in the range, but had clearly had a recent refurb, with a well-stocked kitchen, fully made up beds, nice little shower room and was very clean throughout. Best caravan shower I've ever had - no quick flash under a tepid drippy thing, this was 10 minutes of piping hot shower whilst singing happily. It was a chilly week, but the heating in the caravan held up well, although the kids were glad I'd brought hot water bottles.

It's a smallish park, which gives it a friendly feel. The free, supervised soft play barn is great (if in need of a facelift!) The pool is for larking about rather than swimming, but that's all the kids wanted, and it was toasty in there (again, a relief with the very cold weather).

Every member of staff that we met was in a good mood and very helpful. We tried the restaurant a couple of times and whilst it was a standard menu, it was all well-cooked and clean. We tried a few activities, such as the bouncey trampoline... thing... the go-karts and the aqua jets - enjoyed all of them, and staff running these were particularly helpful.

The entertainment and arcade were the usual holiday park thing, but the entertainers seemed to really enjoy spending time with the kids, which made a big difference. Some nice little activities in the main lounge area during the day, too. Outside are swings, crazy golf and various climbing/highwire activities. We didn't really use the beach due to the weather - it looked more the type for rock-pooling than sun-bathing - but still a very pretty view.

It just goes to show that a standard formula can work really well when everyone involved just takes that extra little bit of care. We'll definitely be back!

There are lots of things to do nearby. The West Somerset Railway has a stop up the road - be advised that this is not as "nearby" as advertised (took 25 minutes at toddler speed, and no footpath along a 40mph road) but worth the trip.
